The Hon. Ronald S. Motil is an associate judge for the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court in Illinois. He was appointed to the bench by the judges of the 3rd Judicial Circuit in 2021.
The 3rd Judicial Circuit includes Madison County and Bond County.
Prior to his appointment, Motil was an attorney with the Gori Law Firm, one of the top filers of asbestos lawsuits in the country. He specialized in civil, workers’ compensation, and municipal law matters. He supplemented his practice with service as a village attorney for Pontoon Beach, Maryville, and Madison.
Motil earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University in 1979. He then completed a J.D. at Saint Louis University School of Law in 1983. He is admitted to practice in Illinois (1983), the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois (1986), Missouri (1994), and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois (2018).
His memberships have included the Illinois State Bar Association, the Missouri State Bar Association, the Madison County Bar Association, the Tri-City Bar Association, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. He also sat on the Oversight Committee of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission.
Motil was a resident of Maryville, Illinois, at the time of his appointment. Before pursuing a legal career, Motil spent time as a steelworker at Granite City Steel.
He is registered as a Democrat.
