The Hon. Robert P. Trivette is a judge for the 1st Judicial District Court of North Carolina. He was appointed to the bench in 2009, filling the vacancy created by the elevation of Hon. J. Carlton Cole to the Superior Court.
The 1st Judicial District includes Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans Counties.
Prior to his appointment, Trivette was the acting director of North Carolina operations at Vandeventer Black, LLP in Kitty Hawk. He joined the firm after working as an assistant district attorney with the Dare County District Attorney’s Office (1991 to 2003). During his time as a prosecutor, two of his cases were featured on Court TV.
Trivette began his legal career as a judicial clerk for the Hon. Gerald Arnold with the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
Trivette received a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Intermont College (1981) and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then completed a J.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law in 1989.
