The Hon. Robert J. Bonds is a judge for the 14th Judicial Circuit Court of South Carolina. He was elected to the bench by the South Carolina General Assembly on February 3, 2021.
The 14th Judicial Circuit includes Allendale, Hampton, Jasper, Beaufort, and Colleton Counties.
Prior to his election, Bonds was a partner at Hetrick, Harvin & Bonds, LLC since 1998. Before that, he managed his own private practice (1995 to 1998) and was an associate at the Bogoslow & Jones Law Firm (1990 to 1995). His areas of practice included insurance defense litigation, personal injury litigation, and criminal defense.
Bonds received a B.A. in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1986. He then completed a J.D. at Campbell University, Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, in 1990.
His memberships include the South Carolina Bar and the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates. Bonds also served on the Walterboro City Council, and he is a past president of the Walterboro Rotary Club and a past chairman of the Lowcountry Council of Governments.
Bonds was born in Aiken, South Carolina. He and his wife, Harriet, have three children.
