The Hon. Richard S. Gottlieb is a judge for the Forsyth County Superior Court in the 21st Judicial District of the 4th Division in North Carolina. He was elected to the bench in 2014 and re-elected in 2022.
Prior to his election, Gottlieb was a partner at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton, a law firm he joined in 1996. During his tenure there, he specialized in complex commercial and intellectual property matters, handling cases in both state and federal trial and appellate courts.
Gottlieb earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Emory University in 1992. He then completed a J.D. at the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1996.
His memberships have included the North Carolina Conference of Superior Court Judges and the Forsyth County Bar Association. He has also been involved with the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Winston-Salem, the United Way of Forsyth County, and the Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County.
Gottlieb was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He and his wife, Jennifer, have two adult children and two Labrador Retrievers. Jennifer, a retired attorney, teaches children with dyslexia at the Triad Academy division of Summit School.
He is registered as a Republican.
