Hon. Richard D. Kuhn, Jr. is a judge for the Fifty-First District Court of Michigan in Oakland County. He was elected to the bench in 2002.
During his judicial tenure, Kuhn has served as Chief Judge of the court. He is also credited with implementing a Teen Court program at the Fifty-First District Court in 2004.
Prior to his election, he spent thirteen years in private practice. During that same time, Kuhn represented the Waterford Township as a member of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners (1983 to 1990).
He received a B.A. from Oakland University in 1982. Kuhn went on to complete a J.D. at Detroit College of Law in 1989.
His memberships have included the the Michigan District Judges Association.
Kuhn has also been involved with the Waterford Coalition for Youth (co-chairperson), the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce, Blessings in a Backpack (co-chairperson), and the Waterford Foundation for Public Education (annual sponsor).
Kuhn is a lifelong resident of Waterford, Michigan, where he attended Waterford Kettering High School. He and his wife have four children. The family attends Central United Methodist Church in Waterford.
