Biography

The Hon. Reuben J. Sheperd is a magistrate on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He was appointed to the bench by the judges of the Northern District of Ohio on April 1, 2024, filling a seat vacated by the Hon. Thomas M. Parker.


Prior to his appointment, Sheperd was an administrative law judge for the United States Social Security Administration in Akron. Before that, he spent time as a sole practitioner in his own private practice, representing clients in criminal defense matters in Cleveland (2007 to 2016).


Sheperd earned a B.A. from Miami University in 1992. He then completed a J.D. at Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1995. He is licensed to practice in Ohio (1995).


After graduating from law school, Sheperd began his legal career with the City of Cleveland. He held various positions with the municipality until 2002, at which time he became a program manager at Vocational Guidance Services.


He is registered as a Democrat.
