The Hon. Raymond S. Clift, Jr. (Ret.) is a former judge for the Shelby County General Sessions Court in Tennessee.
Clift, who sat by jurisdiction on the General Sessions Court in Shelby County, also served in concurrence as a municipal judge for the City of Germantown since joining the bench in 1982. He retired from the municipal post in 2022.
In addition to his judicial responsibilities, Clift maintained a private practice since 1972. During that time, he was an attorney at Griffin, Clift, Everton & Maschmeyer, PLLC. Clift began his legal career as an assistant public defender in Shelby County in 1969 before transitioning into the role of assistant district attorney the following year.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi in 1963. Clift then completed a J.D. at the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, in 1969.
His memberships include the Tennessee Municipal Judges Conference and the Memphis Bar Association.
Clift was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. He is a former Germantown Alderman (1978 to 1980).
