Judge Pennie M. Thrower: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Pennie M. Thrower is a judge for the Gaston County District Court in North Carolina. She was elected to the bench on November 6, 2012, and re-elected in 2016 and 2020.


Prior to her election, Thrower was a sole practitioner in her own private practice, a law firm she opened in 2004. She supplemented her practice with service as the Town Attorney for the Town of Dallas (2006 to 2012).


Thrower earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1987. She later completed a J.D. at Campbell University, Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, in 1996. She is licensed to practice in North Carolina (1996) and Massachusetts (1999).


After graduating from law school, Thrower entered into private practice, working as an attorney at Dotson & Kirkman and D’Amelio, Forbis & Stegall. She then relocated her practice to Massachusetts, where she worked for the next few years before joining the Gaston County District Attorney’s Office in 2000.


Thrower was born in New Orleans, Louisiana.


She is registered as a Republican.
