Hon. Paul Metzger (Ret.) was a judge for the Garfield County Court in Colorado. He was appointed to the bench in 2002. Metzger retired in 2022.
During his judicial tenure, he presided over the Juvenile Court, as well as misdemeanor criminal cases, traffic matters, small claims, and civil cases up to $25,000.
Prior to his appointment, Metzger worked as a private practice attorney, including managing his own law firm in Glenwood Springs, where he handled family law, general civil litigation, and criminal defense. During that same time, he served as a municipal judge for the New Castle Municipal Court beginning in 1999.
Metzger began his tenure in private practice at the law firm of Scott McInnis in 1990.
He received a B.S. from the University of Colorado in 1978. Metzger went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 1981.
After graduating from law school, he began his legal career as a deputy district attorney for the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Colorado Springs.
Metzger served as an attorney coach, team coach, and acting judge for mock trial regional competitions.
He and his wife, Cindy, a retired pediatric occupational therapist, have two grown children.
