Biography

The Hon. Paul G. Levenson is a magistrate on the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He was appointed to the bench by the judges of the District of Massachusetts on May 27, 2022.


Prior to his appointment, Levenson was a regional director for the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, a position to which he was named in 2013. Before that, he spent time as an assistant United States attorney for the District of Massachusetts (1989 to 2013). During his tenure as a federal prosecutor, he held assignments in the Civil Division and the Criminal Division, rising through the ranks to become chief of the Economic Crimes Unit.


Levenson earned a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Harvard University in 1979. He then completed a J.D. at Harvard Law School in 1984. As a law student, he sat as a member of the Harvard Law Review.


He is licensed to practice in New York (1986), the District of Columbia (1987), and Massachusetts (1989).


After graduating from law school, Levenson began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Stanley J. Weigel of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. He served in that capacity until 1985, at which time he entered into private practice as an associate at Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays & Handler in Washington, D.C. Then, in 1985, he relocated his practice to New York, where he worked as an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
