Biography

The Hon. Paetra T. Brownlee is a judge for the Florida Sixth District Court of Appeal. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Ron DeSantis on July 13, 2023, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Jay Cohen.


Prior to her appointment, Brownlee was a judge on the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, a position to which she was named by DeSantis on May 1, 2020. The 9th Judicial Circuit encompasses Osceola County and Orange County. Brownlee held assignments in Orange County, presiding over cases in the Civil Division and the Criminal Division.


Brownlee earned a B.A. in international studies and French studies from Emory University in 2004. She then completed a J.D. at Florida State University College of Law in 2009. As a law student, she interned at the Florida State University College of Law Public Interest Law Center.


After graduating from law school, Brownlee spent time as an attorney in private practice, representing clients in appellate litigation for civil and criminal matters at the state and federal levels at the Law Offices of Charles M. Greene (2015 to 2018) and the Brownlee Law Firm (2018 to 2020).


Her memberships have included the Federalist Society, the Ninth Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission, the George C. Young American Inn of Court, and the Fifth District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission. She has also served in the Appellate Practice Section of The Florida Bar and the Appellate Practice Committee of the Orange County Bar Association.


Raised in Orlando, Florida, Brownlee was a resident of Winter Park, Florida, at the time of her appointment. Her husband, Michael Brownlee, continues to operate the Brownlee Law Firm.
