The Hon. P. Oswin Chrisman (Ret.) served as a judge for the 44th District Court in Dallas County, Texas. Chrisman retired from the bench in 1982. He currently serves as a mediator and arbitrator for Judicial Arbitration Mediation Services.
Chrisman began his judicial career as a judge for the Probate Court at Law No. 2 (1969 to 1973) and the Domestic Relations Court at Law No. 4 (1973 to 1977) in Dallas County. He was subsequently elevated to the 330th (Family) District Court in 1977. He served in that capacity until 1978, when he transferred to the 44th (Civil) District Court.
Before joining the bench, Chrisman spent one year as a partner at Green, Gilmore, Chrisman & Rothpleetz. He returned to private practice after retiring from the court in 1982. He worked as a partner at Vial, Hamilton, Koch & Knox until 1997, at which time he became of counsel for Fulbright & Jaworski.
Chrisman earned a B.A. from Baylor University in 1957. Then, in 1959, he completed a J.D. at Baylor Law School.
His memberships have included the Texas Bar Foundation, the Dallas Bar Association, the Dallas Estate Council, the Texas Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Texas Association of Mediators, the Dallas Association of Attorney-Mediators, and the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution.
He has chaired the Texas Institute of Health Research, the Dallas County Juvenile Board, the Legislative Oversight Committee for Mental Health, and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has also served as president of the Mental Health Association of Texas and the Dallas Council on Alcoholism.
Chrisman was a founding member and chair of the Dallas Dispute Mediation Service.
