Judge Orion L. Douglass: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Orion L. Douglass (Ret.) served as a judge on the Glynn County State Court in Georgia. Douglass was elected to the bench in 1992. He retired at the conclusion of his term on December 23, 2012.


Prior to his election, Douglass maintained his own private practice as a sole practitioner, a legal outfit he opened in 1974. Before that, he worked as an attorney at Hill, Jones & Farrington


Douglass earned an A.B. in philosophy from the College of the Holy Cross in 1968. He then completed a J.D. at Washington University School of Law in 1971. He was licensed to practice in Missouri (1973) and Georgia (1973).


After graduating from law school, Douglass began his legal career as a staff attorney with the St. Louis Office of the Circuit Attorney. He served in that capacity until 1974, supplementing his practice with service to the St. Louis Legal Aid Society.


His memberships have included the Coastal African-American Historic Preservation Commission. He is a recipient of the Man of the Year Award from the Brunswick-Glynn County Chamber of Commerce (2007).


Born in Savannah, Georgia, Douglass is a member of Brunswick Second Presbyterian Church. He and his wife, Shirley, raised three children.
