The Hon. Nechama D. Minkowicz (Ret.) served as a judge for the Lea County Magistrate Court in New Mexico. Minkowicz was appointed to the bench by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in 2020. She lost her bid for retention and returned to her position as an attorney with the New Mexico Public Defender’s Office.
Minkowicz earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Excelsior University in 2015. She then completed a J.D. at Ave Maria School of Law in 2016. She spent the next few years interning with the Federal Public Defender’s Office (2017) and the Virginia Public Defender’s Office (2018) in Alexandria, Virginia, before receiving an LL.M. in advocacy from the American University Washington College of Law in 2018.
