Hon. Natalie T. Chase (Ret.) was a judge for the 18th Judicial District Court of Colorado. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Hickenlooper on June 6, 2014. Chase resigned from the bench on May 31, 2021.
The 18th Judicial District includes Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln Counties.
Her resignation came after she was publicly censured by the Colorado Supreme Court on April 16, 2021, for using a racial slur, voicing her opinion on racial issues from the bench, and asking employees to do personal tasks for her during business hours.
Prior to her appointment, Chase was a partner at Shafer & Chase since 2007. Before that, she was special counsel to Tom A. Henry, P.C. (2006 to 2007) and an assistant city attorney for the Aurora City Attorney’s Office (2003 to 2006).
She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver in 2000. Chase went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 2003.
Following her resignation, she became a mediator at Solutions & Resolutions and a substitute referee for the City of Fort Collins.
