Biography

Hon. Nancy L. Buytendorp is a judge for the 3rd Judicial District Court of Minnesota in Winona County. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Tim Pawlenty on July 15, 2008.

The 3rd Judicial District includes Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca, and Winona Counties.

Prior to her appointment, Buytendorp worked for sixteen years as an assistant county attorney with the Winona County Attorney’s Office (1992 to 2008). She has also taught as an adjunct professor at Winona State University.

Buytendorp received a B.B.A. in business administration and management from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988. She went on to complete a J.D. at Hamline University School of Law in 1991.

Buytendorp has sat on the Minnesota District Judge Foundation Board of Directors, the Criminal Justice Courts Committee, the Equal Access to Justice Board, the Winona County Law Library Board of Directors, and the Winona County Courts Committee (chair).

She was also a member of the Winona YMCA Board of Directors.
