The Hon. Nancy A. Baskin is a judge for the 4th Judicial District Court of Idaho. She was appointed to the bench by former Gov. Butch Otter on December 5, 2016, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Timothy Hansen.
The 4th Judicial District includes Ada, Boise, Elmore, and Valley Counties. Baskin presides in Ada County, including the Ada County Drug Court.
Prior to her appointment, she spent more than twenty years as a staff attorney to the Hon. Edward J. Lodge with the United States District Court for the District of Idaho (1993 to 2016). Before her tenure there, Baskin was in private practice at Givens Pursley, LLP in Boise. She has also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Idaho College of Law.
Baskin received a bachelor’s degree in business and political science from the University of Idaho. She then worked for five years at the Boise Cascade Corporation before completing a J.D. at the University of Idaho College of Law (1991) and a master’s degree in business from Boise State University. While a law student, she sat on the Idaho Law Review.
She was appointed to serve as a member of the Judicial Council in 2022.
Baskin was raised in Twin Falls, Idaho, and has resided in Ada County since 1983. She and her husband, Tom, a fellow attorney, have two sons. In her free time, Baskin enjoys volunteering, playing tennis, hiking, and cycling.
