The Hon. Monique G. Morial is a judge for the First City Court of Orleans Parish in Louisiana. She was elected to the bench in 2010, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Charles Imbornone.
The First City Court includes the Eastbank of Orleans Parish.
Morial received a bachelor’s degree in history from Emory University in 1992. She then completed a J.D. at Tulane Law School in 1995.
Morial began her legal career as a judicial law clerk for the Louisiana 4th Circuit Court of Appeal and the Orleans Parish Civil District Court. She then entered private practice at local firms before opening her own private practice in 2003, where she handled civil litigation matters. Then, in 2007, Morial joined Usry Weeks & Matthews, where her practice transitioned into law enforcement defense and general litigation matters.
In addition to her practice, she spent several years as an attorney for the First City Court Clerk’s Office (1998 to 2010).
Her memberships include the Louisiana State Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association, and the National Bar Association. She is a past president of the Ursuline Academy Alumnae Association and has been involved with the Sugar Bowl, CASA New Orleans, and the Urban League of Greater New Orleans.
Morial was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, and she attended Ursuline Academy.
She is registered as a Democrat.
