The Hon. Monique E. Barial is a judge for the Orleans Parish Civil District Court of Louisiana. She was elected to the bench in 2014.
Barial received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Xavier University of Louisiana in 1994. She then completed a J.D. at Southern University Law Center (2000) and an LL.M. in estate planning from the University of Miami School of Law (2001).
Barial began her legal career as a law clerk for the Orleans Parish Civil District Court (2001 to 2003). In 2006, she began a yearlong tenure as an attorney advisor for the United States Small Business Administration before establishing her own solo practice. Then, in 2009, Barial returned to the Orleans Parish Civil District Court, this time as a minute clerk to the Hon. Christopher Bruno, where she remained until her election.
Her memberships include the Independent Women’s Organizations, the Louisiana State Bar Association, and the Louisiana Association of Black Women Attorneys. Barial has also served as a volunteer for CASA and the Mercy Endeavors Senior Activity Center.
She is registered as a Democrat.
