The Hon. Michael J. Sullivan (Ret.) served as a circuit judge for the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois. Sullivan was designated to the bench in 2006. He retired in 2018.
Sullivan began his judicial career as an associate judge for the 19th Judicial Circuit in McHenry County, a position to which he was named in 1976. Then, in 1984, he was elected circuit judge for the 19th Judicial Circuit.
Prior to his appointment, Sullivan was an attorney in private practice, working at Joslyn & Green in Woodstock.
Sullivan earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Loras College in 1963. He then completed a J.D. at Notre Dame Law School in 1966.
His memberships have included the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the McHenry County Bar Association, and the Judicial Conference of Illinois. He also sat on the Illinois Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission as well as the Ad Hoc Committee of the Conference of Chief Circuit Judges on Article V of the Illinois Supreme Court Rules.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Sullivan was raised in Kane and McHenry County. He attended the Marmion Military Academy in Aurora.
