Hon. Michelle A. Amico is a judge for the 18th Judicial District Court of Colorado. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Hickenlooper in May 2012.
The 18th Judicial District includes Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln Counties. Amico has served as Chief Judge of the 18th Judicial District since 2018 and presides over a full criminal and probate docket, including mental health.
Prior to her appointment, she was a chief deputy district attorney with the Denver District Attorney’s Office. Amico joined the office as a deputy district attorney. She also served as a legal advisor to the Denver Police Department.
Amico received a B.A. from the University of Arizona in 1989. She went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 1993.
Amico is a past president of the Denver Center for Crime Victims Board and a member of the Arapahoe County Bar Association.
She served as an instructor at the Judicial Conference, the Advanced New Judge Orientation, and for statewide training for Probation Officers.
Amico has also volunteered her time with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the Catholic Charities’ annual drive and served as a judge for high school mock trial court competitions.
