The Hon. Michele Morel (Ret.) is a former judge for the 29th Judicial District Court of Louisiana in St. Charles Parish. She was elected to the bench in 2012. Morel was defeated in her bid for re-election in 2014.
She received a bachelor’s degree in French from Louisiana State University. Morel then taught French as a middle school and high school teacher before completing a J.D. at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. She was admitted to practice in Louisiana in 1994.
Morel began her legal career as a law clerk in the Research and Appeals Division of the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office, where she quickly accepted the position of assistant district attorney. Over the next seven years, she gained experience in the Felony Division, Second Parish Court, the Juvenile Division, and the Support Enforcement Division. In addition to her role as prosecutor, Morel had an active private practice. She later served as first coordinator of the Victim Assistance Program for the Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s Office and was assigned to the office’s Support Enforcement Division. Morel held a similar position in Terrebonne Parish.
Her memberships include the Louisiana State Bar Association. Morel is also a past secretary of the Juvenile Justice Commission and has been involved locally with the Humane Society and the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
She is a lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish. When not presiding over legal matters, she enjoys spending her time with family and friends.
