Biography

The Hon. Michael T. Liburdi is a judge on the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. He was nominated to the bench by President Donald Trump on January 16, 2019, filling a seat vacated by the Hon. David G. Campbell. His nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate on July 30, 2019.


Prior to his appointment, Luburdi was a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, a law firm he joined in 2018. Before that, he spent three years as general counsel in the Arizona Office of Governor Douglas A. Ducey.


Liburdi earned a B.S. in justice studies and political science from Arizona State University in 1998. He then completed a J.D. at Arizona State University, Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, in 2002. As a law student, he sat as a member of the Arizona State Law Journal.


He is licensed to practice in Arizona (2002).


After graduating from law school, Liburdi began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Ruth V. McGregor of the Arizona Supreme Court. He served in that capacity until 2003, at which time he entered into private practice at Brown & Bain (later, the Phoenix office of Perkins Coie). During his tenure there, he performed a brief stint as a staff attorney with the Federal Election Commission in Washington, D.C. Then, in 2011, he joined Snell & Wilmer. Over the course of his legal career, Liburdi represented clients in complex commercial litigation, antitrust, constitutional, political, and election law matters.


His memberships have included the Federalist Society, the American Bar Association, and the Maricopa County Bar Association. He has also been involved with the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the Arizona Commission on Access to Justice, and the Arizona Uniform Laws Commission. He has also been involved with the Arizona State Governing Committee for Deferred Compensation Plans.


He is a recipient of the President’s Award from the Arizona State Bar Association (2013).


Liburdi was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
