Biography

The Hon. Michael McMahon is a judge for the 1st Judicial District Court of Montana. He was elected to the bench on November 8, 2016.


The 1st Judicial District encompasses Lewis & Clark County and Broadwater County.


Prior to his election, McMahon was the managing attorney at McMahon, Wall & Hubley, a law firm he joined in 2008. He handled civil defense matters, representing Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana in insurance disputes as well as doctors and attorneys in malpractice cases.


McMahon earned a bachelor’s degree in business management and accounting from National College in 1988. He then completed a J.D. at Gonzaga University School of Law in 1991.


After graduating from law school, McMahon entered into private practice in North Dakota. He worked in that capacity until 1996, at which time he relocated his practice to Montana.
