The Hon. Michael G. Sturdevant (Ret.) served as a judge for the North Dakota Northeast Judicial District. Sturdevant was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Hoeven in 2006. He retired on September 1, 2015.
The Northeast Judicial District includes Benson County, Bottineau County, Cavalier County, McHenry County, Pembina County, Pierce County, Ramsey County, Renville County, Rolette County, Towner County, and Walsh County.
Sturdevant earned a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University in 1971. He then completed a J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1974. He was admitted to the State Bar of North Dakota in 1974.
After graduating from law school, Sturdevant entered into private practice in Minot. He worked in that capacity until his appointment to the bench.
Sturdevant was born in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He and his wife have three children.
