The Hon. Michael D. Fritz is a judge for the 7th Judicial District Court of Minnesota. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mark Dayton on February 19, 2014, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Lisa N. Borgen.
The 7th Judicial District includes Becker County, Benton County, Clay County, Douglas County, Mille Lacs County, Morrison County, Otter Tail County, Stearns County, Todd County, and Wadena County.
Prior to his appointment, Fritz worked for the Becker County Attorney’s Office. He started as an assistant county attorney, rising through the ranks to become its county attorney. Before that, he spent time as a partner at Hummel, Sinclair, Evans, Hunt, Heisler & Fritz.
Fritz earned a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University. He then completed a J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law.
His memberships have included the Becker County Bar Association and the Becker County Child Abuse Prevention Council.
Fritz was a resident of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, at the time of his appointment.
