The Hon. Meredith B. Switzer is a judge for the Garland County District Court in Arkansas. She was elected to the bench in 2020.
Prior to her election, Switzer was Chief Legal Counsel for Quapaw House, a position to which she was named in 2019. Before that, she spent time as a judge for the Arkansas Court of Appeals (2019 to 2020) and the Garland County District Court (2017 to 2019). She was named to the District Court by Governor Hutchinson in 2016, filling a vacancy created by the passing of her father, the Hon. David B. Switzer.
Switzer earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville in 2001. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, William H. Bowen School of Law in 2004. As a law student, she sat as the executive editor of the UALR Law Review.
After graduating from law school, Switzer entered into private practice, working as an associate at the Rose Law Firm. She held this position until 2009, at which time she joined the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office. During her tenure there, she held assignments in the State Agencies Department, rising through the ranks to become deputy attorney general in 2015.
Her memberships have included the American Bar Association, the Arkansas Bar Association, the Garland County Bar Association, the Hot Springs National Park Rotary Club, and the William H. Overton American Inn of Court. She also sat on the Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church Child Development Center and the Mid-America Science Museum.
Switzer was born and raised in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
