The Hon. Matthew R. Mallie is a judge for the 9th Judicial District Court of Minnesota. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Tim Walz on July 12, 2019, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Earl E. Maus.
The 9th Judicial District includes Aitkin County, Beltrami County, Cass County, Clearwater County, Crow Wing County, Hubbard County, Itasca County, Kittson County, Koochiching County, Lake of the Woods County, Mahnomen County, Marshall County, Norman County, Pennington County, Polk County, Red Lake County, and Roseau County.
Prior to his appointment, Mallie was a sole practitioner in his own private practice. He supplemented his practice with service as a city prosecutor for multiple cities in Crow Wing County, a conflict attorney for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, and a city attorney for the City of Garrison.
Mallie earned a bachelor’s degree from Loras College. He then completed a J.D. at Mitchell Hamline School of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar of Minnesota in 1997.
After graduating from law school, Mallie began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. L. W. Yost of the 1st Judicial District Court of Minnesota.
His memberships have included the Brainerd Lakes Area Sex Trafficking Team, the Business Networking International, the Victim Coordinating Council, and the Brainerd Economic Development Committee.
