Biography

The Hon. Mary E. McCaffrey is an associate judge for the Rhode Island District Court. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Donald Carcieri on June 17, 2008.


Prior to her appointment, McCaffrey was a Magistrate for the Rhode Island Family Court, a position to which she was selected in 2005.


McCaffrey earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University in 1984. She then completed a J.D. at Boston College Law School in 1987. She is admitted to practice in Rhode Island (1987) and Massachusetts (1988).


After graduating from law school, McCaffrey entered into private practice, working as an attorney at McCaffrey & McCaffrey. During this time, she supplemented her practice with service as an associate justice for the Warwick Municipal Court as well as a probate judge for the Warwick Probate Court.


Raised in Providence, Rhode Island, McCaffrey attended Saint Mary’s Academy - Bay View. Her father, Eugene McCaffrey, spent time as the Mayor of Warwick, and her brother, Michael J. McCaffrey, serves as a member of the Rhode Island Senate.
