The Hon. Mary B. Thrower (Ret.) served as a judge for the 28th Judicial District Court of Kansas. Thrower was appointed to the bench by the 28th Judicial District Nominating Commission in 2006. She retired on August 14, 2020.
The 28th Judicial District encompasses Ottawa County and Saline County.
Thrower earned an associate’s degree in administration of justice from Wichita State University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Emporia State University. She spent the next four years working as a court services officer for the 28th Judicial District Court before relocating to Colorado, where she served as a pretrial specialist for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department. Then, in 1992, she completed a J.D. at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.
After graduating from law school, Thrower entered into private practice in Colorado. She later returned to Kansas, where she was hired as an assistant county attorney for the Saline County Attorney’s Office.
Her memberships have included the Kansas Supreme Court Task Force for Permanency Planning and the Kansas Juvenile Justice Workgroup. She has also been involved with the Kansas Commission on Judicial Conduct.
She is a recipient of the Franklin N. Flaschner Award from the American Bar Association.
