The Hon. Mark D. Hanasono is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of Stephanie Sautner. He was appointed to the bench in 2013 by former Governor Jerry Brown.
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Hanasono received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to earn his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C.
Hanasono began a clerkship for the Hon. Stephanie Duncan-Peters with the D.C. Superior Court in 1999. In 2000 he joined the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office where he worked as a deputy public defender until 2004. Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court, Judge Hanasono had served for nine years as a deputy alternate public defender for the Los Angeles County Alternate Public Defender's Office.
A Japanese-American, Hanasono has been active with the Japanese American Bar Association.
He has also served as an instructor for the Continuing Education of the Bar, California where he has taught felony sentencing and has written for the Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly.
