Biography

The Hon. Mark H. Hofstad (Ret.) served as a judge for the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. Hofstad was appointed to the bench by former Governor Charlie Crist in 2010, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Randall McDonald. He retired in 2018 and continued to preside as a senior judge.


The 10th Judicial Circuit encompasses Hardee County, Highlands County, and Polk County.


Hofstad earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Moorhead State College. He then completed a J.D. at the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in 1984. As a law student, Hofstad interned with the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.


After graduating from law school, Hofstad relocated to Florida. He was hired as an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the 10th Judicial Circuit. He served in that capacity for five years, eventually leaving to become staff counsel to the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. Then, in 2000, he began serving as a judge of compensation claims with the Florida Office of the Judges of Compensation Claims.


Hofstad was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His father worked as a school superintendent, and his mother taught English. When not presiding over legal proceedings, he enjoys riding motorcycles, winter skiing, and reading.
