Biography

The Hon. Mark A. Kearney is a judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He was nominated to the bench by former President Barack Obama on June 16, 2014, filling a seat vacated by the Hon. J. Curtis Joyner. His nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate on December 3, 2014.


Kearney earned a B.A. in English and economics from Villanova University in 1984. He then completed a J.D. at Villanova University School of Law in 1987. He is licensed to practice in Delaware (1988) and Pennsylvania (1988).


After graduating from law school, Kearney began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Maurice A. Hartnett, III, of the Delaware Court of Chancery. He worked in that capacity until 1988, at which time he entered into private practice at Elliott, Mannino & Flaherty in Philadelphia. Kearney remained with the firm for two years, eventually leaving to join Elliott, Greenleaf & Siedzikowski in Blue Bell. Over the course of his legal career, he represented business owners, investors, directors, and officers in complex commercial, financial, employment, and consumer litigation.


His memberships have included the Montgomery Bar Association. He has also been involved with the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, and he has served as a multi-year contributing editor to Butterworths Journal of International Banking and Financial Law.


He was named Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Montgomery Bar Association (2014).


Kearney was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
