The Hon. Maritza Berdote Byrne is a judge for the Morris/Sussex County Superior Court (Vicinage 10) in New Jersey. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Chris Christie on April 1, 2013.
Prior to her appointment, Byrne was the Assistant Director of Compliance for UBS Financial Services, Inc. (2007 to 2013). During her tenure there, she was tasked with ensuring compliance with the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, SEC regulations, FINRA regulations, and ERISA and Department of Labor Regulations.
Byrne earned a bachelor’s degree in English and political science from Rutgers University in 1989. She then completed a J.D. at Rutgers Law School in 1992.
After graduating from law school, Byrne entered into private practice, working as an associate at Day Pitney and Pitney, Hardin, Kipp & Szuch. Then, in 2000, she joined McCusker, Anselmi, Rosen & Carvelli, where she spent the next seven years as a partner.
Her memberships have included the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey (president) and the Montville Township Open Space Committee (chairman).
She was named Young Lawyer of the Year by the New Jersey State Bar Association (2000).
