The Hon. Margaret A. Marcouiller (Ret.) served as an associate judge for the Lake County Circuit Court in Illinois. Marcouiller was appointed to the bench by the judges of the 19th Judicial Circuit on January 4, 2010. She retired on December 14, 2018.
Prior to her appointment, Marcouiller was an assistant state’s attorney for the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, a position to which she was named in 1994. During her tenure there, she handled local government and labor relations matters, eventually becoming Chief Deputy of the Civil Division.
Marcouiller earned a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University. She then completed a J.D. at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. She was admitted to the State Bar of Illinois in 1990.
After graduating from law school, Marcouiller began her legal career with the Illinois Office of the Attorney General. She started as a law clerk, rising through the ranks to become an assistant attorney general in the General Law Division. Then, in 1993, she became a staff attorney with the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts.
Her memberships have included the Association of Women Attorneys of Lake County, the Lake County Bar Association, and the Judicial Education Conference. She also served as a topic editor for the 2018 Illinois Judicial Benchbook on Mortgage Foreclosures, and she facilitated the Illinois Supreme Court’s Judicial Performance Evaluation Program.
