The Hon. M. Brooke Murdock (Ret.) served as an associate judge for the Baltimore City Circuit Court in Maryland. Murdock was appointed to the bench by former Governor Parris Glendening on October 3, 1997. She retired on January 1, 2014.
Murdock held assignments as Judge-in-Charge of the Baltimore City Criminal Division (2010 to 2012) and Designated Judge for the Advanced Science & Technology Adjudication Resource Center Program (2009). She sat on the Civil Law & Procedure Committee and the Judicial Ethics Committee of the Maryland Judicial Conference, and she chaired the Baltimore City Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (2010 to 2012).
Prior to her appointment, Murdock was a principal at Ferguson, Schetelich, Hefferman & Murdock, a law firm she joined in 1996. Before that, she spent time as a partner at Thieblot, Ryan, Martin & Ferguson (1992 to 1996).
Murdock earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware in 1972. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1977.
After graduating from law school, Murdock began her legal career as an assistant state’s attorney for the Baltimore City Office of the State’s Attorney. She served in that capacity until 1980, at which time she became an investigative attorney for the United States International Trade Commission.
Murdock returned to the Baltimore City Office of the State’s Attorney in 1983. She spent the next four years working as an assistant state’s attorney. Then, in 1987, she became an assistant federal public defender with the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Maryland.
Her memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the National Association of Women Judges, and the Circuit Court Judges Association. She sat on the Board of Directors of the Women’s Law Center of Maryland, the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys’ Association, and Baltimore Clayworks.
Murdock was born in Baltimore, Maryland.
