Judge Lyle E. Frank - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Lyle E. Frank is an Acting Justice of the New York County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the First Judicial District of New York. He was designated to the Supreme Court bench in 2018. Originally, Justice Frank was elected to the New York County Civil Court in 2016 and was promptly designated to the New York County Criminal Court during that same year. Then, in 2018, just prior to his designation to the Supreme Court, he sat as a judge for the Bronx County Civil Court.

He is a registered Democrat.

Justice Frank received his B.A. from New York University College of Arts and Sciences in 1994. He went on to earn his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1997.

Prior to his election to the bench, Frank had served as an attorney with the New York City Council since 2007. During his tenure there, he was promoted to the position of assistant deputy director of the Human Services Division in 2014.

Before joining the City Council, Frank had worked in private practice. He first practiced at Callan, Koster, Brady, and Brennan LLP from 2003 to 2005 before then joining Wilson Elser, where he practiced until 2007.

He began his legal career in the public sector after graduating from law school, where he served as an assistant district attorney with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office from 1998 to 2003.

Justice Frank also taught as an adjunct professor at Baruch College.

He served as the former chair of the Community Board 6 from 2006 to 2009 and was also a member of the Tilden Democratic Club for twenty-five years.

At the time of his election to the bench, he resided in East Midtown Plaza with his wife, who is also an attorney, and their two children.
