Judge Lisa L. Asadoorian: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Lisa L. Asadoorian is a judge for the Fifty-Second District Court (Division Three) of Michigan in Oakland County. She was elected to the bench in November 2000.


During her judicial tenure, Asadoorian implemented a requirement that defendants sentenced for alcohol-related offenses must tour the county morgue. She also hosts a bimonthly mock trial program for local fourth and fifth graders, during which time the students conduct a trial, tour the sheriff’s department, and observe actual court cases in the courtroom.


Prior to her election, Asadoorian had worked as a magistrate for the Fifty-Second District Court (Division Two), a position to which she was appointed in 1995. During that same time, she managed her own private practice in Rochester Hills. Before that, Asadoorian was a former assistant prosecutor and senior trial attorney with the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney in Oakland County.


She received a B.A. in criminal justice from Michigan State University in 1986. Asadoorian went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Detroit, Mercy School of Law in 1989.


Her memberships have included the Michigan District Judges Association, the Oakland County Bar Association, the Women Lawyers Association, the Rochester Bar Association, the American Inn of Court, and the Armenian Bar Association.


From a civic standpoint, Asadoorian has been involved with HAVEN, the American Association of University Women, the Oakland County Teen Court, the Rochester Area Jaycees, the Holiday Helpers of Rochester Hills, I Care, the Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Orion Chamber of Commerce, and the Oxford Chamber of Commerce. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce.


Asadoorian was named Outstanding Young Government Leader for the State of Michigan (2004) and is the recipient of the Oakland County Coordinating Council Against Domestic Violence Award (2004).
