Judge Leticia M. Ramirez - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Leticia M. Ramirez is a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in New York County. Ramirez was elected to the bench in 2011.

Over the course of her judicial career, Ramirez has served as a judge for the Family Court of the City of New York in Kings County (2011 to 2015) as well as an acting justice for the New York County Supreme Court (2015 to 2017). She was designated to these positions by Chief Administrative Judge Ann Pfau and Chief Administrative Judge A. Gail Prudenti, respectively.

Prior to her election to the bench, Ramirez served as a principal court attorney to the Hon. Jose A. Padilla, Jr. of the Civil Court of the City of New York in New York County.

Ramirez earned a B.A. from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 1994. She then completed a J.D. at Brooklyn Law School in 1998.

Her memberships have included the Dominican Bar Association and the Association of Judges of Hispanic Heritage.

In 2017, Ramirez was admonished by the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct. The Commission concluded that she had lent the prestige of her judicial office to advance the private interests of another by invoking her judicial title and position.
