The Hon. Leslie E. Beiers is a judge for the 6th Judicial District Court of Minnesota. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mark Dayton on June 27, 2014.
The 6th Judicial District includes Carlton County, Cook County, Lake County, and St. Louis County. Over the course of her judicial career, Beiers has served as the Chief Judge (2022) and the Assistant Chief Judge (2020 to 2022) of the 6th Judicial District. She also presided over the Carlton County Treatment Court and the Southern St. Louis County DWI Court.
Prior to her appointment, Beiers was an assistant county attorney for the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office, a position to which she was named in 1995. During her tenure there, she held assignments in the Juvenile, Criminal, and Civil Division, supplementing her service with work as a Special Assistant United States Attorney (2011 to 2014).
Beiers earned a bachelor’s degree in French and political science from the University of North Dakota in 1980. She then completed a J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1983.
After graduating from law school, Beiers began her legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Patrick McNulty of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. She served in that capacity until 1985, at which time she became a staff attorney for Legal Aid of Northeastern Minnesota. Then, in 1991, she joined the Carlton County Attorney’s Office as an assistant county attorney.
Her memberships have included the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Eleventh District Bar Association, the Minnesota District Judges Association, and the Minnesota Judicial Council. She has also been involved with the Racial Justice Improvement Project and the Mending the Sacred Hoop Safety Audit Team.
