The Hon. LeAnn P. Mackey-Barnes is a judge for the Marion County Court in Florida. She was elected to the bench on November 8, 2022, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Jim McCune.
Prior to her election, Mackey-Barnes was the chief assistant public defender in the Office of the Public Defender for the 5th Judicial Circuit. In that capacity, she played an instrumental role in the creation of a Veterans Treatment Court, a Mental Health Court, and a Juvenile Expungement Program in Marion County.
Mackey-Barnes earned a J.D. from the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 2002.
Her memberships have included the Board of the Pace Center for Girls and the Kiwanis Club of Ocala.
She is a recipient of the Richard D. Custureri Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award (2015) and the Diamond Hearts Community Service Award (2015).
Born and raised in Marion County, Mackey-Barnes is a married mother of two children. Her family has resided in the area for two hundred years.
