Hon. Leah Edwards is a district judge for the Twenty-First Judicial District in Oklahoma. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mary Fallin in 2015, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Greg Dixon (Ret.).
The Twenty-First Judicial District includes the District Courts in Cleveland, Garvin, and McClain Counties.
Prior to her appointment, Edwards worked as a first assistant district attorney for the Sixth Prosecutorial District, which includes Grady, Stephens, Caddo, and Jefferson Counties. She held the position since 2013.
Before becoming a prosecutor, Edwards handled family and criminal law matters as a partner in the Chickasha law firm of Park, Nelson, Caywood & Jones, LLC. She first joined the firm as an associate. Edwards also spent one year as a municipal judge for the Chickasha Municipal Court (2010 to 2011).
She received a B.A. in sociology from Oklahoma State University in 1998. Edwards went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2002.
Her memberships have included the Oklahoma Judges Association, the Cleveland County Bar Association, the McClain County Bar Association, the Garvin County Bar Association, the Oklahoma Judicial Conference Executive Board of Directors, the Attorney General’s Task Force on Family Violence, and the State Post Adjudication Review Advisory Board.
Edwards also served as president of the Grady and Canadian County Women’s Service and Family Resource Center, a founding member and past president of the Grady County Child Advocacy Team, a founding member of the Coordinated Community Response Team, and a member of the Purcell Rotary Club.
She resides in McClain County with her husband, John, an elementary school principal, and their daughter. Edwards is a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she is a Sunday school teacher.
