Hon. Kevin P. Cunningham is a judge for the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. He was elected to the Circuit Court in 2018.
While on the bench, Cunningham has held an assignment in the Sixth Municipal District of the Municipal Department.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University. Cunningham went on to complete a J.D. at John Marshall Law School.
After law school, he joined the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he began as an assistant state’s attorney, eventually earning a spot in the felony trial division. He remained with the State’s Attorney’s Office for six years.
Cunningham then began a tenure in solo practice, where he specialized in misdemeanor defense as well as civil and municipal matters including family and personal injury law. In addition to his private practice, Cunningham was a village prosecutor for the Village of Oak Lawn.
His memberships included the Southwest Bar Association (board of directors and past president), the Judicial Evaluation Committee, and the Hon. Anthony S. Montelione Scholarship Program (chairperson).
Cunningham was born and raised in Mount Greenwood, Chicago. A married father of three, he resides with his family in West Beverly, where they attend St. John Fisher Church. In his free time, Cunningham has served as a Little League baseball coach and as a manager of his son's hockey team.
He is registered as a Democrat.
