The Hon. Katina L. Capers-Washington is a magistrate for the Fairfield County Magistrate Court in South Carolina. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Henry McMaster in 2019.
The magistrate court presides over landlord/tenant hearings, summons and complaint cases (to claim disputed funds), claim and delivery cases (to reclaim property), and public sales of abandoned vehicles. Its magistrates also hear criminal and traffic cases, issue warrants and set bonds, and hold preliminary hearings and transfer cases for the county.
Prior to her appointment, Capers-Washington spent sixteen years as a life skills director and school counselor, working with young people in the Lowcountry and Midlands areas of South Carolina.
Capers-Washington earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and psychology from the University of South Carolina in 1996. She later completed a master’s degree in counseling from Webster University in 2004.
Born and raised in Hampton, South Carolina, Capers-Washington attended Wade Hampton High School. She and her husband, Carmen, own a catering company named Que’d Up Smokers BBQ and Catering.
