Hon. Katie A. Gummer is a judge in the Appellate Division of the Superior Court in New Jersey. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Chris Christie in 2013.
In 2020, Gummer received a temporary assignment to the Appellate Division from the Hon. Stuart Rabner, Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Before that, she presided on the Monmouth County Superior Court (Vicinage 9), where she held assignments in the Civil Division (2013 to 2018) and General Equity Division (2018 to 2020). Gummer also served as presiding judge of the General Equity Division in Monmouth County.
Before joining the bench, she was a partner at the global law firm,DLA Piper (2010 to 2013). Gummer joined the firm after practicing for nineteen years as a partner at McCarter & English, LLP (1991 to 2010).
She received a bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College in 1986. Gummer went on to complete a J.D. at Yale Law School in 1990.
After graduating from law school, she began her legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Daniel J. O’Hern with the New Jersey Supreme Court (1990 to 1991).
Her memberships have included the Supreme Court Committee on Women in the Courts.
