The Hon. Julie Fessel Flanigan is a magistrate for the Floyd County Circuit Court in Indiana. She was appointed to the bench on September 1, 2014.
Prior to her appointment, Flanigan was an attorney at Simpson Thompson & Colin, a law firm she joined in 2011. Before that, she spent time as a deputy prosecuting attorney for the Harrison County Prosecutor’s Office (2008 to 2011).
Flanigan earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1989. She then completed a J.D. at Northeastern University School of Law in 1992. She is admitted to practice in Delaware (1992) and Indiana (2005).
After graduating from law school, Flanigan began her legal career as a staff attorney and law clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She served in that capacity until 1994, at which time she became a deputy attorney general for the Delaware Attorney General’s Office.
Flanigan was raised in Floyd County. She and her husband, Paul, have four children.
