Judge Joyce E. McKeeman: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Joyce E. McKeeman is an assistant judge for the Vermont Superior Court. She was elected to the bench in 2010.


McKeeman has held assignments in the Civil and Family Divisions in Orange County.


Outside of her judicial tenure, she spent several years teaching economics, American history, and American government and critical thinking at community colleges and universities in Colorado, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and Vermont.


McKeeman received a B.A. in international studies from the University of Wyoming (1978) and an M.A. in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia (1986).


She also completed training requirements to hear uncontested divorce hearings in the Family Division of the Vermont Superior Court and is qualified to serve as a hearing officer in the Vermont Judicial Bureau. The Bureau hears civil violation cases.


McKeeman also served as president of the Vermont Association of County Judges and was a member of the Little Rivers Health Care, Inc. Board; the Vermont PBS Community Council; and the Northeast Kingdom Waste Management District Board of Supervisors.


A native of Colorado, she has resided in Corinth, Vermont, since 1990.


McKeeman is registered as a Democrat.
