Judge Joshua P. Bannister: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Joshua P. Bannister is a judge on the Little Falls City Court in the 5th Judicial District of New York. Bannister was appointed to the bench by Mayor Mark Blask in 2022, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Hon. Joy Malone.


The 5th Judicial District includes Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego counties.


Prior to his appointment, Bannister has managed his own private practice, a law firm he established in Little Falls in 2015. Three years later, he began supplementing his practice as an assistant public defender with the Office of the Montgomery County Public Defender.


Bannister received a B.S. from Lancaster Bible College in 2002. He then completed a J.D. at Western Michigan University, Thomas M. Cooley Law School, in 2015. While a law student, Bannister interned with the Washtenaw County Public Defender (2014) and the Oneida County Public Defender (2014).


He was admitted to practice in New York (2015).


Before pursuing his legal career, Bannister served for more than eight years as a supply officer in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of captain. His military service includes three deployments to the Middle East.


He is a past secretary of the Herkimer County Bar Association.


A husband and father, Bannister is a native of Herkimer County, New York.
