Biography

Hon. Joshua A. Allison is a judge for the 2nd Judicial District Court of New Mexico in Bernalillo County. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in 2019.

Prior to beginning his judicial career, Allison was a shareholder and director at Sheehan & Sheehan, P.A., having joined the firm in 2010. His practice focused on litigating complex civil disputes, including construction-related matters and disputes involving owners of commercial real property investments. Allison also represented attorneys in legal malpractice and disciplinary actions. Before joining the firm, he briefly practiced as an associate at Snell & Winter, LLP in Orange County, Califonia (2009 to 2010).

He began his legal career as a clerk for the Hon. Edward L. Chávez with the New Mexico Supreme Court (2008 to 2009).

Allison received a bachelor’s degree in history from Millikin University in 1996. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2008.

Allison was admitted to practice in California (2008), New Mexico (2009), the United States District Court for the Central District of California (2010), the United States District Court for the Southern District of California (2010), the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California (2012).

He served as a commissioner on the board of Bar Commissioners of the State of New Mexico and a board member of the Disciplinary Board of the New Mexico Supreme Court.

Allison grew up in Lincoln, Illinois, where he worked on a hog farm during the summer.

He is registered as a Democrat.
