Judge Joseph F. McCloskey: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Joseph F. McCloskey (Ret.) was a judge for the Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was appointed to the bench in 1975. McCloskey retired in 1998.


After retiring, he became a senior judge with the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court, serving as the president judge of the Court of Judicial Discipline. His tenure as a senior judge ended in January 2010.


He also served as the president judge for the Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas from 1990 to 1998.


McCloskey received a B.S. from Shippensburg University in 1952. He went on to complete a J.D. at Villanova University School of Law in 1957.


Over the course of his legal career, McCloskey had worked as a private practice attorney and an assistant attorney general. In addition, he did legal work for several school districts, municipalities, and authorities and was a workers’ compensation referee (1972 to 1975).


He was registered as a Democrat.
